R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Carlin Dale Wicker of Fredericksburg were deeply saddened by his passing on April 3, 2005, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Born on November 28, 1931, in Runnels County, Coach Wicker played football at and graduated from Goldthwaite High School, San Angelo College, and Southwest Texas State University, where he received his bachelor of science degree in physical education and his master of education degree; on October 19, 1952, he married his college sweetheart, June Copeland, in San Angelo; and WHEREAS, An esteemed teacher and coach in Texas high schools for 37 years, he began his career in the U.S. Army by coaching football and baseball teams at the regimental level at Fort Knox, Kentucky; then, after spending two years in San Angelo and four years in Iraan, he and his family settled in Fredericksburg, where he served 31 years as the head football coach and athletic director at Fredericksburg High School; his impressive tenure resulted in five district championships and four zone championships; after retiring from the athletic department, he continued with the school for 10 more years as driver education coordinator; and WHEREAS, Coach Wicker also made numerous professional contributions with the Texas High School Coaches Association, which he served as a director from 1967 to 1970, vice president from 1971 to 1972, and president from 1972 to 1973; he was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 1978 and was twice honored as a coach in the Shrine California/Texas All Star Football Classic; and WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Coach Wicker played a significant and positive role in his community; a congregant of the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, he was also a lifetime member of the PTA and the Fredericksburg Lions Club, which he served as president; he earned numerous recognitions for his work, including Outstanding Public Servant by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce and Outstanding Educator by the Fredericksburg Jaycees; and WHEREAS, An avid reader and doting grandfather, Coach Wicker inspired an untold number of students over the course of his exceptional career, and his influence will continue to have a positive effect in their lives and throughout his community for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Coach Carlin Dale Wicker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, June; to his daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Troy Addison, D'Ann and Doug Kuhlmann, Karen and Donnie Michael, and Traci and Ross Linker; to his grandchildren, Trey and Jordan Addison, Kate and Leah Kuhlmann, Seth and Maggie Linker, and Cade Michael; to his great-granddaughter, Stormie Addison; to his brother, Wayne Wicker and his wife, Jo; to his sister, Janell Parker and her husband, Price; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carlin Dale Wicker.
