R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A team of seven dedicated men of faith from the Canton area will be leaving on June 21 to travel to Swaziland in Southern Africa for a 15-day mission trip; and WHEREAS, Combating the spread of AIDS is the focus of the humanitarian expedition being undertaken by Dr. Ben Bratcher, Truman Oakley, Pat May, Monte Clearman, Craig Ham, Matthew Daniel, and Cary Chastain; their destination, Swaziland, has the highest AIDS rate per capita of any country in the world; and WHEREAS, These selfless Texans will work with a local missionary, Wayne Myers, and his wife, Barbara, to share the gospel with local youth and to encourage them to look to the Bible as a guide to life that will help to protect them from contracting HIV and AIDS; moreover, they will visit classrooms to share their expertise in the various fields in which they work and sponsor retreats, rallies, and sports clinics geared to connect with young men and women on their level to begin a dialogue that could forever change their lives for the better; and WHEREAS, Members of the Canton group indeed merit special recognition for devoting their time, energy, and resources to this worthwhile endeavor, hoping to give countless young people a brighter future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. Ben Bratcher, Truman Oakley, Pat May, Monte Clearman, Craig Ham, Matthew Daniel, and Cary Chastain on their efforts to prevent the spread of AIDS in Swaziland and extend to them heartfelt best wishes for a successful and memorable mission trip; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for each of these men as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
