R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family members and friends celebrate the life of
Tomas Quintanilla, father of our esteemed colleague, the Honorable
Chente Quintanilla; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Quintanilla passed away on July 18, 1999, and
the memory of his spirit lives in the hearts of all those who loved
him; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 7, 1920, in Mesquity, Jalisco, Mexico,
he moved to the United States with his beloved wife, the late Maria
N. Quintanilla, and they made their home on the R. T. Hoover farm
near Tornillo; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, this hardworking gentleman retired from
farming and moved to Tornillo, where he spent the rest of his life;
he was an active member of St. Rita Catholic Church and the founder
of the town's Headstart program; and
WHEREAS, Tomas Quintanilla was a cherished citizen of
Tornillo and is dearly missed by all those who were privileged to
know him and by those who were touched by his dedication to his
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tomas Quintanilla and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons,
State Representative Inocente "Chente" Quintanilla and his wife,
Graciela, Felipe and his wife, Cecilia, Tomas and his wife, Rosa,
and Martin and his wife, Terri; to his daughters, Delia Bochmeyer,
Elvia Orona and her husband, Roberto, Alejandra Rodriguez and her
husband, George, Otilia Portillo and her husband, Lorenzo, Herlinda
Sandoval and her husband, Roberto, Maria Saldana and her husband,
Aurelio, Thelma Trevizo and her husband, Felipe, Elizabeth Melendez
and her husband, Heriberto; to his 33 grandchildren; to his 28
great-grandchildren; to his great-great-grandchild; and to his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tomas
Quintanilla.
