R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Delta Chi Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., is
observing its Founder's Day celebration in Houston on May 21, 2005,
providing a fitting occasion to reflect on the history of this
notable organization of educators; and
WHEREAS, The national sorority traces its roots to 1923, when
Gladys Merritt and a group of dedicated teachers from the Jersey
City area met to discuss the formation of an organization that would
meet their shared objectives while offering an opportunity for
fellowship; and
WHEREAS, Incorporated several weeks later, Phi Delta Kappa
recognizes its official Founder's Day on May 23, 1923; since then,
the organization has steadily grown, and today the Delta Chi
Chapter continues to uphold the important traditions and goals put
forth by the group's founding members; and
WHEREAS, In giving of their time and shared knowledge to
benefit their peers, the members of this outstanding organization
also contribute to the betterment of the greater community, and
their efforts indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Delta Chi Chapter of Phi Delta
Kappa, Inc., on Founder's Day and extend to its members sincere best
wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
