R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and many friends
of Robert Layton Simmons, Jr., of Dallas, who passed away on April
23, 2005, at the age of 58; and
WHEREAS, Born in Amarillo on April 11, 1947, Mr. Simmons was a
talented athlete and an invaluable member of the Amarillo High
School football team; following his 1966 graduation, he enrolled at
Texas Tech University and earned a bachelor's degree in
international business in 1970; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan began his career as a marketing
executive for two start-up companies, and in 1977 he joined Dr. Bill
Bright's Campus Crusade for Christ, working as a fund-raiser for
the organization's evangelistic film, Jesus; he later moved to
Dallas, where he used his exceptional marketing skills to benefit a
number of businesses in the health care, retail, and oil and gas
industries before becoming a founding partner in the merchant
banking firm of Trinity River Capital Ventures; and
WHEREAS, A civic-minded individual, Mr. Simmons gave
generously of his time and talents to community endeavors,
including the Father of the Year Awards luncheon and Wipe Out Kids'
Cancer; and
WHEREAS, First and foremost, Mr. Simmons was a man of deep
faith and spiritual devotion and a valued member of Park Cities
Presbyterian Church and numerous ministries; and
WHEREAS, Beloved husband, father, and son, Bob Simmons will
long be remembered for his love of his family, his church, and his
community; although he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live
on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed with his
kindness and strength; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Layton
Simmons, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Cindy Simmons; to his son, William Simmons; to
his parents, Pauline and R. L. (Bill) Simmons; to his sister, Katina
Simmons; to his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Toni and Norman
Brinker; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
Layton Simmons, Jr.
