R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches
Association is hosting its 26th annual Hall of Honor Awards Banquet
on July 23, 2005, providing a fitting time to recognize this
outstanding organization; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1940, this nonprofit group is made up of
coaches of the former Prairie View Interscholastic League, which
served as the governing body for competitions held between public
African American high schools in Texas during segregation; and
WHEREAS, Although the PVIL merged with the UIL in 1967
following desegregation in schools, its coaches association
remains active today; with the motto, "Remembering the Past with
Pride," the association's members are dedicated to preserving the
organization's rich athletic history, acquiring UIL recognition of
all PVIL records, and developing a museum to house league
memorabilia; and
WHEREAS, For more than six decades, the members of the
Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association have
played a vital role in the athletic community of Texas, and their
many worthwhile efforts are indeed deserving of special legislative
praise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the members of the Prairie View
Interscholastic League Coaches Association for their work in
preserving the achievements of African American student athletes
and coaches in Texas and extend to them sincere best wishes for
success with their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
