R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Dora Faye Ligon of Weslaco on April 30, 2005, at the age of 87, has deeply saddened her family and many friends in Hidalgo County; and WHEREAS, A native of Donna, she was born on March 17, 1918, into a pioneer Valley family and grew up in a close-knit circle of loved ones, including a twin sister and six other siblings; she was a member of the Donna High School Class of 1936; and WHEREAS, The former Dora Faye Parker became the bride of Eugene William Ligon in 1938; the couple made their home in Weslaco, where they enjoyed a happy and fulfilling marriage that was richly blessed with two daughters, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Ligon contributed to the betterment of her community through her involvement with such civic and social organizations as the Junior Service League, Beta Sigma Phi, the Study Club, Girl Scouts of America, and the PTA, in addition to teaching Sunday school at the First Christian Church; in more recent years, she was an active member of the Bible Study Fellowship; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her lifetime, Dora Faye Ligon made a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals, and her memory will long be held in the hearts of those people fortunate enough to have shared her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dora Faye Ligon and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughters, Linda Williams and her husband, James, and Janis Davis; to her grandchildren and their spouses, Joy and Tom Robb, Melissa and Benton Beckwith, Ches and Caroline Williams, and Chris and Kim Williams; to her great-grandchildren, Hunter and Ashley Robb, Will and McLean Beckwith, and Chelsey, Grace, and Charlotte Williams; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dora Faye Ligon.
