R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Reyes Torres Garcia, Jr., of Houston has made an indelible impact on his neighborhood as a community leader and organizer; and WHEREAS, A native of Taft, Mr. Garcia served in the military and in 1968 moved to Houston; he settled in North Houston, where he purchased a home in the High Meadows North subdivision and became actively involved with community organizations; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan is a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and a founding member of the High Meadows North Civic Club, which he has served as president since 1990; he has further demonstrated his devotion to the High Meadows North area by joining local business leaders in a grassroots campaign to save the neighborhood from decline; those efforts resulted in the creation of the Aldine Community District, and Mr. Garcia continues to serve on the district board; and WHEREAS, The strength and vitality of our communities depend on the tireless dedication of individuals like Reyes Garcia, who has earned the respect and admiration of his neighbors for his commitment to the continued betterment of their neighborhood; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Reyes Torres Garcia, Jr., for his exceptional service to his community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
