R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Meryl-Ina Samantha Kizzee of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council has been named a recipient of the 2004-2005 Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting; and WHEREAS, The Gold Award recognizes young women for their commitment to themselves, their community, and the world; each candidate for this prestigious honor must complete a number of projects that build on the skills she has learned throughout her years in Girl Scouts, and that culminate in a Gold Award project that has a positive and lasting impact on her community; and WHEREAS, Spanning three years, the community projects of Ms. Kizzee included coordinating the food pantry at Greater Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, which benefited the Julia C. Hester House for three summers, initiating a mosquito repellant drive at the Greater Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, and the research and preparation of a comprehensive homeless resources directory; she also volunteered to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless at the Brown Convention Center and sponsored a community Thanks-for-Giving reception honoring donors to homeless causes; and WHEREAS, By encouraging young women to exercise leadership, explore career opportunities, and discover more about themselves, the Girl Scout program builds the confidence, self-awareness, and community spirit of our future leaders; those who complete the challenging requirements of the Gold Award demonstrate the perseverance and discipline that are vital to success in life; and WHEREAS, The maturity, dedication, and spirit that Ms. Kizzee has exhibited in pursuit of her goals truly exemplify the noblest ideals of the Girl Scout program, and she merits special recognition for her achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Meryl-Ina Samantha Kizzee on her receipt of a 2004-2005 Girl Scout Gold Award and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Kizzee as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
