R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of the Texas A&M University--Kingsville Javelina football team have enjoyed resounding success on the gridiron, making the 2004 season a memorable one for all their fans; and WHEREAS, The Javelinas charged through a superb 9-2 regular season and advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals, while claiming their fourth straight Lone Star Conference Championship; winning 539 games in 79 years, the A&M--Kingsville football squad has a winning percentage of .695, the highest of any school in the history of Division II football; and WHEREAS, In addition to the team's success, individual recognitions went to Daniel Taylor as Offensive Back of the Year, Maurice Washington as Receiver of the Year, Wilbert Martin as Lineman of the Year, and Deandrae Fillmore as Linebacker of the Year and as first team All-American; National Player of the Week honors during the season went to running back Larry Williams, kicker Richard Hammond, linebacker Deandrae Fillmore, and defensive back Tracy James, and 21 Javelinas received All-LSC South Division recognition; and WHEREAS, Head coach Richard Cundiff ably schools his athletes in the fundamentals of the game while instilling in them the values of good sportsmanship; in his five years as the Javelina's head coach, he has tallied 43 wins, four LSC titles, and four playoff appearances, including two in the NCAA Division II semifinals; furthermore, he was named the LSC Coach of the Year in 2004 for the second time; and WHEREAS, Through hard work and dedication, the members of the 2004 Kingsville Javelina football team have contributed greatly to the school's reputation as a Texas football powerhouse, and they are a source of tremendous pride to all their supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Richard Cundiff and his Texas A&M University--Kingsville football team for an exceptional 2004 season and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
