R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society is
celebrating its 25th anniversary, and this special occasion
provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the history of this
outstanding organization; and
WHEREAS, The society's dedicated members support, manage,
and operate the Van Zandt County Library of Genealogy and Local
History, which was established in August 1989 and has expanded
considerably since its founding; an off-site department of the main
county library, this research facility was established in Canton to
provide a home for the region's collection of genealogical research
materials; and
WHEREAS, The library currently maintains more than 75,000
pieces of research material, including books, periodicals,
quarterlies, microfilm, microfiche, CDs, and taped oral histories;
the genealogical society also provides a computer for public use
and for accessing records from other states; and
WHEREAS, To effectively preserve the past of the Lone Star
State requires the commitment of its citizens, and the members of
the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society have played no small part
in this important endeavor for the past quarter-century; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society
on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and extend to all those
associated with this noteworthy group sincere best wishes for
continued success and accomplishment; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
