R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Major Horst
Gerhard Moore of Los Fresnos suffered an immeasurable loss with the
death of this valiant soldier on November 9, 2004, at the age of 38;
and
WHEREAS, Redeployed to the Middle East after serving in the
war since its commencement in March 2003, Major Moore was assigned
to the Army's 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade,
25th Infantry Division; he was killed in Mosul, Iraq, from a mortar
attack and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze
Star for service to his country; and
WHEREAS, Gary Moore was born in Germany on September 15,1966,
and enlisted in the Army after graduating from Eisenhower High
School in 1984; he attended St. Mary's University, where he earned a
degree in international business and accounting and met his future
wife, Raquel; highly regarded for his kind and caring ways, this
17-year Army veteran was also known for his can-do attitude and
patriotism; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have
individuals whose love for their country inspires them to take up
military service, yet the tragic death of this fine man is a
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Major Moore embodied the
highest ideals of the U.S. Armed Forces, and those who knew and
loved him will forever carry him close to their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Major Gary Moore and
extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
Raquel Vallejo-Moore; to his daughter, Sophia Herta Moore; to his
mother, Hannelore S. Workman; to his father, Ret. U.S. Army Major
Gary Moore; to his brothers, Ret. USAF Master Sergeant Joachim
Moore and his wife, Sally, and Corey Moore; to his sister, Beatrice
Magathan, and her husband, Howard; to his in-laws, Juanita, Jesus,
Deborah, Sonia, Jose, and Tonya Vallejo, Guadalupe Vallejo, Sr.,
Guadalupe Vallejo, Jr., and Manuela and Saul Hernandez; and to his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
Major Horst Gerhard Moore.
