H.R. No. 1699


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt by many people at the news of the tragic passing of Dell Wayne Watson, Jr., who died on November 19, 2004, at the age of 20; and WHEREAS, Born in Austin on October 24, 1984, Mr. Watson graduated from Stony Point High School, where he took honors classes, made excellent grades, and participated in various activities such as the Inter-Active Club, the Athletic Bible Study, the Rotary Club, the Boy Scouts, and the school band; with a long-standing love of football, he was a talented running back and the first African American to win Homecoming King and Prom King at Stony Point High School before graduation; and WHEREAS, A sophomore at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Mr. Watson was also very active in his church, City of Hope Church of God In Christ, where his father is pastor and where he participated in the Sunshine Band, purity class, church choir, and the usher board; an intelligent and caring man, he spoke eloquently about sports, movies, politics, and religion and looked out for others with a generous heart; and WHEREAS, Mr. Watson's sensitivity emerged not only in his close relationships but also in his poetry: he was a talented writer and saw two of his poems published; during this painful time, his words are a true comfort to those who were privileged to know and love this gentle soul; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Dell Wayne Watson, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his father, Dell Watson; to his mother, Noalie Watson; to his siblings, Tristan, Miesha, and Washaun Watson and Michelle Wallace; and to the many friends and relatives of this special young person; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dell Wayne Watson, Jr. Laney ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
