                                                                  H.R. No. 1700


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Hurst-Euless-Bedford Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2005, presenting an apt occasion to recognize the history of this notable organization; and WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1955, the Hurst-Euless Chamber of Commerce united the Hurst and Euless Chambers of Commerce, both of which had been established three years earlier; in 1969, the organization merged with the Bedford Chamber of Commerce to provide an authoritative voice for the three-city industrial and business community; and WHEREAS, Since then, the numbers of residents of all three cities have increased exponentially; according to the 1960 census, Hurst had a population of approximately 10,000, Euless less than 4,300, and Bedford less than 3,000, and today those communities now have an estimated 37,000, 50,000, and 48,000 citizens, respectively; the chamber's budget has increased accordingly from $17,000 in the 1965-1966 fiscal year to $450,000 in 2003-2004, and chamber membership has more than tripled from 452 members to 1,500; moreover, in 2004, the chamber moved into an impressive new building on Martin Drive in Bedford; and WHEREAS, For five decades, the HEB Chamber of Commerce has worked to enhance the business environment of northeastern Tarrant County by providing its members with excellent opportunities for business promotion and education and, in so doing, has significantly contributed to the vitality of that area of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and extend to its membership sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the chamber as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
