H.R. No. 1712


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful moments and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Natalia Palomo Martinez of Houston, who passed away on April 20, 2005, at the age of 68; and WHEREAS, Born on November 30, 1936, in Edinburg, Mrs. Martinez decided early in her life that she wanted to help others; she became a nurse and worked at Methodist Hospital with patients who were suffering from heart disease until she left to stay at home with her children; and WHEREAS, A longtime parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church, she was a member of the Interfaith Care Partners, the St. Patrick Care Group, the St. Patrick Support Group, a CCE teacher, and founder of the Care Team Ministries; she also volunteered her time with Ripley House and became a founding member of the Ripley House Folkloric dancing group; after caring for her ailing mother, she worked for the Harris County Health Department until her retirement; and WHEREAS, A loving wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother, Natalia Martinez will be deeply missed by all those who were privileged to know her and by those countless individuals who were touched by her commitment to service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Natalia Palomo Martinez and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband of 36 years, Elias Martinez, Jr.; to her son, Elias Martinez III; to her daughter, Monica Cisne and her husband, Julio; to her grandchildren, Christopher and Nicolas Martinez; to her brothers, Steve, Benny, Rudy, Victor Palomo, and Canuto Palomo, Jr.; to her sisters, Janie Reyes, Mary Ortiz, and Delia Ponce; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Natalia Palomo Martinez.
