R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the death of Helene LeMay Burk on May 3, 2005,
at the age of 70, the residents of Junction and Kimble County have
lost a dear friend and esteemed civic leader; and
WHEREAS, Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on August 15, 1934,
Mrs. Burk lived in San Angelo for 25 years before moving to Dallas
in 1985; a resident of Junction since 1989, she served as executive
vice president of the Kimble County Chamber of Commerce for the past
14 years, more than tripling its membership roster and involving
herself with a host of local organizations and events; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her generosity of spirit, Mrs.
Burk was the first non-native to be named Kimble County Citizen of
the Year in 1995; her myriad good works were accomplished through
affiliations with such groups as the Lions Club, Friends of the
Library, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Concho
Valley Council of Governments, Meals on Wheels, the Red Hat
Society, and the Back Street Players, to name but a few; and
WHEREAS, Helene Burk gathered friends everywhere she went,
and her circle of loved ones included many residents of Kimble and
Tom Green Counties; in addition to her work and public service
endeavors, she played bridge, kayaked, and was an avid traveler who
cruised in the Caribbean this past February, and previously
explored Brazil, Bermuda, Africa, China, Russia, New Zealand,
Greece, Australia, the Holy Land, Europe, Canada, and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, A blessing in the lives of many, Helene Burk will
long be held in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have
experienced her ability to make everyone feel special and to feel
the warmth of her irresistible smile; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Helene LeMay Burk and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
children, Sherry and Bruce Hubbard, Tom and Jeannie Sullivan, and
John Sullivan; to her grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Jason
Hubbard and his wife, Sharon, Shawn Sullivan, Heather and Cody
Tiftickjian, Trey and Kaycie Sullivan, Crystal Cook, Canyon
Sullivan, and Travis Sullivan; to her great-granddaughter, Taryn
Tiftickjian; to her brothers, Gilbert and Joseph LeMay; to her
sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Carl Hall and Rose Marie and
Don Williams; and to all who mourn her passing; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Helene
LeMay Burk.
