H.R. No. 1715


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Destinee Nacole Waiters of San Antonio has provided outstanding assistance as an intern in the office of State Representative Yvonne Davis throughout the 79th Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, This dynamic young woman is graduating from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in political science; she has ably served the Student Government Association as a representative for the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and as the speaker of its Student Assembly; moreover, she founded and chaired the college's student council, earned dean's list honors, played an important role in the establishment of the African American studies minor, and helped to revive the Super-Spirit Spectacular Competition in an effort to increase student attendance at university-sponsored athletic events; and WHEREAS, Off campus, Ms. Waiters has asserted herself as an invaluable member of her community, giving of her time and talents to a host of civic efforts; a mentor with the Texas Youth Commission, she has organized a voting drive, volunteered with orphans in Guatemala, worked as a counselor and coordinator with Children's Association for Maximum Potential, and helped with programs benefiting the homeless; in recognition of her outstanding efforts, she has received the Sojourner Truth Advocacy Award, was nominated for the Spirit of Martin Luther King Award, and was listed as "The Leading Female African-American Humanitarian" in San Antonio for 2004; and WHEREAS, With plans to become an attorney, Ms. Waiters will undoubtedly enjoy a career rich in service to others, as well as great personal fulfillment; and WHEREAS, The constituents of District 111 have benefited tremendously from her hard work and dedication to excellence and, as the 79th Legislative Session nears its conclusion, it is truly a pleasure to congratulate Destinee Waiters on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Destinee Nacole Waiters for her service as an intern and extend to her sincere best wishes for success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Waiters as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
