R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Jerry L. Carswell, who passed away on January 22, 2004, at the age of 61; and WHEREAS, Born in Gatesville on January 4, 1943, Mr. Carswell attended Granbury High School and was a star athlete on the school's football, basketball, and track teams; he continued his education at Tarleton State College, where he excelled as a member of the track team, served as vice president of his senior class, and earned his bachelor's degree in social studies; he later returned to Tarleton to earn a master's degree in education; and WHEREAS, Following his undergraduate studies, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as one of the soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before volunteering for a tour of duty in Vietnam; and WHEREAS, An outstanding educator and mentor, he was track coach at La Porte and Katy High Schools before going to Langham Creek High School, where he served as head boys' track coach from 1988 to 1998; many of his athletes earned honors at the district, regional, state, and national levels, including a state championship in 1997, and in 1998, he was named Track Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association; in all of his endeavors, he remained passionate about helping his students reach their full potential, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless young Texans; and WHEREAS, Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Jerry Carswell will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed with his generosity and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Jerry L. Carswell and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Linda Gail Stamps Carswell; to his sons, Jordan Daniel Carswell and his wife, Shari, and Robert Justin Carswell and his wife, Mandy; to his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kourtney, Evie, Jack, and John Lyndon; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry L. Carswell.
