R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Dallas businessman Don Huffer Snell on February 26, 2005, at the age of 86, has left a void in the lives of his family and many friends; and WHEREAS, A former fighter pilot and World War II veteran, Mr. Snell was an astute businessman whose far-sighted decisions played a major role in changing automobile retailing in Dallas; in 1962, as general manager of Steakley Chevrolet, he did something unheard of by relocating the dealership from its downtown site to the city's outskirts, where today's booming suburbs and many major car dealerships are now located; and WHEREAS, Mr. Snell realized a professional dream in 1973 when he bought a dealership and renamed it Don Snell Buick; he later acquired a Land Rover franchise with his business partner and son, Jim, and that purchase has evolved to now include dealerships in Dallas, Austin, and Frisco; and WHEREAS, Although semiretired on paper, he loved his work and continued to spend six days a week at his office at the family's dealerships; and WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well-lived may temper the profound sadness of the family and friends of Don Snell, and he will be remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and accomplishments of Don Huffer Snell and that deepest sympathy be extended to the members of his family: to his wife of 60 years, Lillian Snell; to his sons, Don, Jim, and Bill Snell; to his grandchildren; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don Huffer Snell.
