H.R. No. 1726



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, For 20 years, Texans Can! Academy has helped 
students in the Lone Star State find the support they need to 
succeed both in academics and in life; and
	WHEREAS, Established as Dallas Can! in 1985, this nonprofit 
organization has provided a second chance at education for more 
than 30,000 academically at-risk youth throughout Texas, with 
nearly 70 percent of academy graduates going on to receive 
post-secondary education; and
	WHEREAS, The group recently celebrated the opening of its 
newest facility in Dallas in May 2005, and is undertaking expansion 
efforts in Oklahoma, Georgia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Texans Can! Academy has 
provided educational opportunity, support, and encouragement that 
have contributed greatly to the well-being of its students and 
their families, and it is most fitting that the worthy efforts of 
its faculty, staff, and students be commended at this time; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby honor Texans Can! on its 20th anniversary and 
praise all those associated with the organization for their 
achievements; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Texans Can! as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
