R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Max Lucado was named America's Best Preacher in the
April 2005 issue of Reader's Digest for his service as senior pulpit
minister of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, and this honor provides
a fitting opportunity to reflect on his remarkable career; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucado is a graduate of Abilene Christian
University, and before assuming his current role in 1988, he served
the Central Church of Christ in Miami, Florida, and spent five years
performing missionary work in Brazil; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed spiritual leader is a prolific author
and has published more than 70 books, many of which have spent time
on best-seller lists; one such work, titled When God Whispers Your
Name, was the number one best-selling hardback for eight
consecutive months; Mr. Lucado has further distinguished himself as
the winner of six Gold Medallion Awards and as general editor of the
New Century Version Inspirational Study Bible; and
WHEREAS, With more than 28 million copies of his books in
print, Mr. Lucado also hosts a popular radio program, "UpWords,"
which is heard daily in 47 states on more than 1,000 stations; he
has received much renown for his inspiring spiritual leadership and
was named one of the seven most admired Christians by Christianity
Today magazine; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the support of his
wife, Denalyn, and their three beloved daughters; Max Lucado shares
with his 5,000-member congregation, as well as his readers and
listeners, a forgiving doctrine of unconditional love and
acceptance, and he is a source of great pride to his church and his
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Max Lucado on being named America's
Best Preacher by Reader's Digest and extend to him sincere best
wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Lucado as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
