R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Eamon Kennedy of Richardson was named the Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance in 2003, and the following year he was nominated for the organization's top honor on the national level; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy is an adapted physical education teacher at Arapaho Elementary School, where he works with students of varying gifts and abilities; in his current position, he is responsible for establishing eligibility, developing individualized education plans, teaching, and programming for more than 100 students; and WHEREAS, This noted teacher earned his bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Xavier University in Cincinnati and his master's degree in exercise science from the University of Arkansas; before working for the Richardson Independent School District, he taught physical education in Ohio, Arkansas, and Oklahoma; and WHEREAS, He also is active in his community, coaching 13 sports year-round, overseeing 20 volunteers and approximately 125 athletes competing in the Special Olympics, conducting soccer clinics for youth, and serving on the education board of the Association of Retarded Citizens; during his career, he has received numerous accolades and was recently honored at a reception sponsored by the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness Council on Adapted Physical Activity; and WHEREAS, With the camaraderie that he builds with his students and his unwavering dedication, Eamon Kennedy sets an exceptional standard for all educators, and his ongoing commitment to those with special needs continues to make a profound difference in the lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Eamon Kennedy for being selected as the Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Kennedy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
