R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Reynaldo Candia of Primera has established an
impressive record of service as a civil rights activist and
advocate for veterans, migrants, and the disadvantaged; and
WHEREAS, Working primarily in the states of Washington and
Texas, Mr. Candia currently serves as veterans affairs liaison for
the Honorable Juan M. Escobar, state representative of House
District 43; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Candia is a longtime member of the American GI
Forum and the American Legion; he is a former member of the Hispanic
Advisory Committee in Washington State and served as chairman of
the board of the Washington State Migrant Council; in 1998, he was
named Outstanding Veterans Volunteer in the Evergreen State; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman is the founder of the Cinco
de Mayo Solidarity March and the cofounder of the Northwest
Coalition Against Malicious Harassment; in addition, he is a member
of SER--Jobs for Progress National, Inc., and has served as a
coordinator for Get Out the Vote during numerous elections in
Willacy and Cameron Counties; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Candia receives
inspiration and encouragement from his wife, Anita Trevino Candia;
his exemplary efforts in support of those in need have earned him
the respect and admiration of countless individuals, and it is a
pleasure to honor this remarkable man at this time; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize Reynaldo Candia for his outstanding
service in behalf of veterans, migrants, and the disadvantaged;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Candia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
