H.R. No. 1754
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, O. Rufus Lovett of Kilgore College was named a 2005
Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation of San
Antonio; and
WHEREAS, The Piper Professor Program was begun in 1958 and is
given annually to professors for superior teaching at colleges and
universities across the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, A nationally recognized and award-winning
photographer, Mr. Lovett has enjoyed a distinguished 28-year tenure
at Kilgore College since receiving his bachelor's degree at Sam
Houston State University and his master's at East Texas State
University; in addition to his duties teaching photography at
Kilgore, he has served as a faculty advisor for the weekly student
newspaper, The Flare, and a sponsor for both the KC Photography
Society and the Ranger Yearbook; under his supervision, student
publications have been honored with more than 200 photography
awards since 1986; and
WHEREAS, The son of two teachers, Rufus Lovett truly embodies
the spirit of service and dedication to learning that is the
hallmark of a great teacher; he has made a positive and lasting
difference in the lives of his students, and it is indeed a pleasure
to join him in celebrating this recent accomplishment; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate O. Rufus Lovett on being named a
2005 Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Lovett as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
