R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A member of the graduating class of 2005, Shannon Marie Mitchell of Longview has received the Rase Brothers Award from The University of Texas Department of Chemical Engineering; and WHEREAS, The award is presented each spring to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average among students who entered the Department of Chemical Engineering as freshmen and completed their degree in four years; and WHEREAS, Ms. Mitchell was valedictorian of Longview High School in 2001, when she graduated first in a class of 359 students; in addition to continuing her impressive record of academic achievement when she came to UT, she was active with Alpha Phi Sigma, the university's premed honor society, volunteered at St. David's Medical Center, and participated in obstetrics research at UT Southwestern Medical Center and organic electronics research at UT Austin; and WHEREAS, This notable student previously received the Engineering Scholars Award, the Distinguished Scholar Award, and the Chemical Engineering undergraduate research award, and she plans to continue her education as a member of the Baylor Medical School Class of 2009; and WHEREAS, Shannon Mitchell is an example of the best of public education in the State of Texas; her achievements reflect the support and encouragement of her parents, Marshall and Leisa Mitchell, and her own perseverance and determination, and she is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Shannon Marie Mitchell for receiving the Rase Brothers Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Mitchell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
