H.R. No. 1774
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For well over a century, Americans have set aside a
time to honor those members of its military forces who have died in
this country's service; and
WHEREAS, Of the legions of Americans who have stepped forward
to serve their country in times of conflict, more than a million
have made the ultimate sacrifice; they "gave the last full measure
of devotion" on their native soil, in foreign lands, and on seas
around the world; and
WHEREAS, This Memorial Day, as Central Texans pause to
remember and reflect, we honor with fresh sorrow and pride two young
men, Sergeant Michael Luke Boatright of Liberty Hill and Corporal
Joseph E. Fite of Round Rock, who died this past year as a result of
hostile action in Iraq; their loss has brought home to our
communities anew the awesome price that has been paid, generation
after generation, by the courageous and steadfast members of this
country's armed forces; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe an immeasurable debt to those we
salute on Memorial Day; it is a debt that calls us to both remember
their tremendous sacrifice and honor, in deeds as well as words,
those high ideals that represent the very best of this nation's
heritage; those ideals unite us as a people and continue to inspire
hope in every quarter of the globe; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to all those who have died in
the service of this country and encourage all Texans to observe
Memorial Day 2005 with gratitude for the selfless valor of these
patriots.
