R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With his March 31, 2005, retirement as division vice president of regional operations, Jim Schaefer concludes an exemplary career with CenterPoint Energy that has spanned more than 36 years; and WHEREAS, A 1968 graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Schaefer began his career as a power consultant with Houston Lighting and Power Company, now CenterPoint Energy, that same year; in 1996, he was made director of state relations, where he was responsible for government and regulatory affairs, and in 2000, he assumed the post of division vice president of regional operations; and WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Schaefer has made important contributions to his community through numerous civic endeavors; he is a past president of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce and has been active with the Lakewood Civic Association, Baytown Rotary Club, Grace United Methodist Church, Baytown Area/West Chambers County Economic Development, and United Way of Baytown Area, to name a few; his affiliations have also included the Harris County Industrial Commission and the Greater Houston Chamber of Commerce, of which he is a life member; and WHEREAS, A generous man who has donated more than 70 gallons of blood at the Houston Blood Center, Jim Schaefer is truly a man who makes a difference in the lives of others, and he is most deserving of special recognition as he begins a new and rewarding phase of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Jim Schaefer on the occasion of his retirement from CenterPoint Energy and extend to him best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Schaefer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
