R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, William Hampton of Hawkins was recently named a
Distinguished Alumnus of Jarvis Christian College in recognition of
his dedication, commitment, and service to his alma mater; and
WHEREAS, A 1978 graduate of the school, where he earned a
bachelor's degree in secondary education, Mr. Hampton also holds a
master's degree from Texas A&M at Commerce; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan currently serves Jarvis as vice
president for student affairs; he has previously worked as a media
technician, a library specialist, and an adjunct instructor of
African-American history; in addition, he has team taught courses
such as instructional strategies and classroom management in
elementary and secondary schools and teaching media in the Division
of Teacher Education; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hampton has further distinguished himself
through his involvement in a host of social, civic, and
professional organizations; a valued member of the Alpha Zeta Sigma
Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, he also serves the fraternity
as membership intake chairman for the East Texas Area of the Gulf
Coast Region, the associate Texas state director, the Texas state
director of education, and advisor to the Epsilon Zeta Chapter;
moreover, he has given of his time and talents to the Wood County
Industrial Commission, the Greater Hawkins Area Alumni
Association, Riverside Tabernacle Church, InterCity Friends, the
Jarvis Christian College Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Alpha Xi
Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, In addition to this most recent honor, Mr. Hampton
has been lauded by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity as Outstanding
Membership Intake Chairman and was named the Phi Beta Sigma Alumni
Brother of the Year in the State of Texas in 1996; he has also been
recognized by Jarvis students and faculty with an array of Image
Awards such as Favorite Male Faculty/Staff Person, Most Supportive
Male, Most Dedicated Faculty, and Most Supportive Staff Person; and
WHEREAS, One of Jarvis Christian College's most invaluable
assets, William Hampton has brought great pride to his alma mater
through his many contributions, and he is indeed deserving of this
special honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate William Hampton on being named a
Jarvis Christian College Distinguished Alumnus and extend to him
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Hampton as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
