R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the profound
sadness felt by the family and friends of Tom Jackson of Beaumont,
who passed away on March 27, 2005, at the age of 52; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 4, 1952, Mr. Jackson was a lifelong
resident of Beaumont and graduated from Lamar University; he
managed a major rice, soybean, and cattle operation, and at the time
of his death, he was general manager of the Jefferson County
Waterways and Navigation District; and
WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for improvement of the
Sabine-Neches Ship Channel on the Gulf Coast, he pursued channel
improvements to accommodate larger vessels and to help local ports
and private terminals remain competitive in the global economy; he
served as chair of the Sabine Neches Waterway Safety Advisory
Council and contributed to waterway committees of the United States
Coast Guard and the United States Army Corps of Engineers; and
WHEREAS, A respected community leader, Mr. Jackson was a
member of the board of the Beaumont Production Credit Association,
a legislative affairs representative for the Farm Credit
Administration's 10th Farm District, and one of five rice producers
selected nationwide to participate in the USA Rice Council
Leadership Program; and
WHEREAS, Above all, Tom Jackson was devoted to his family; he
worked tirelessly for their well-being and enjoyed nothing more
than sharing time with them; and
WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on the
passion and leadership of individuals like Tom Jackson, who did so
much to build a better future for the citizens of Beaumont and
Southeast Texas; he will be deeply missed by all those who knew him
and by those who were touched by his commitment to service; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tom Jackson and extend
deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
Kathleen; to his children, Tommy, Kit, and Thea; to his mother,
Marta Sue Stagg; to his sister, Susan Myers; and to his other
relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom
Jackson.
