R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Dr. Gordon Spillman Yeargan, Jr., on April 29, 2005, at the age of 78, the Gainesville community lost a beloved friend and advocate for animals; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Dr. Yeargan was born on September 27, 1926, in Dallas, where he spent many hours admiring nature while hiking and riding in the open and wooded areas of his neighborhood; as a teenager, he earned the Eagle Scout insignia and spent time working on a West Texas ranch; and WHEREAS, Dr. Yeargan married Dollye Jane Ramsey in 1955 and, following his service with the U.S. Navy and graduation from Texas A&M University, the couple moved to Gainesville to raise their children; and WHEREAS, After five years in partnership with Dr. C. J. Paclik, Dr. Yeargan opened The Refinery Road Veterinary Clinic, through which he lovingly cared for the pets and animals of Cooke County residents; his professional contributions to his colleagues and the public included service with the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, teaching animal health classes at North Central Texas College, and generously providing low-cost shots and flea dips; and WHEREAS, Highly regarded by his fellow residents, he volunteered his time and energy in behalf of others, for Dr. Yeargan served the Gainesville Memorial Hospital Board of Directors as president, was a deacon of the First Baptist Church, and deeply cared for the boys of Fish Creek Ranch, organizing an annual trail ride for their benefit; he was also a horse rancher who enjoyed riding and training the animals at his Flying Y Ranch; and WHEREAS, Gordon Yeargan was truly a blessing in the lives of many people and animals, and he will long be remembered for his dedication and kindness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Gordon Spillman Yeargan, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of nearly 55 years, Dollye Jane Yeargan; to his children and their spouses, Tricia and David Scott, Jim and Sherry Yeargan, Jay and Laura Roberts, and John and Maria Yeargan; to his grandchildren; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Gordon Spillman Yeargan, Jr.
