R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Chua Jeu of Houston is retiring from her position as chief of Park Plaza Anesthesiologists in May 2005, bringing to a close an exceptional career in the medical profession that has spanned more than four decades; and WHEREAS, A native of Quezon City in the Philippines, Dr. Jeu earned her medical doctor degree from the University of Santo Thomas in her country's capital city of Manila; and WHEREAS, This notable woman began work in the United States in 1964, serving as a medical intern at Houston's Memorial and M. D. Anderson Hospitals; she then completed a residency at Cornell New York Hospital before returning to M. D. Anderson to complete her residency and fellowship; and WHEREAS, By 1970, she was asked to join the hospital's staff and served M. D. Anderson until 1975 when she accepted a position at Methodist Hospital; three years later, she left to become a partner at Park Plaza Anesthesiologists and was named its chief in 1988; and WHEREAS, Dr. Jeu has further distinguished herself through her involvement in a host of professional and civic organizations, including the American College of Anesthesiology, American Board of Anesthesiology, and the Texas Board of Medical Examiners; moreover, she has given of her time and talents to the Harris County Medical Society, Houston Academy of Medicine, and the Chinese Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Dr. Jeu has set a sterling example of professionalism to which all may aspire, and while her presence will be greatly missed by her colleagues, the myriad accomplishments of her tenure will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mary Chua Jeu on the occasion of her retirement as chief of Park Plaza Anesthesiologists and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Jeu as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
