R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Winnsboro Post Office is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding in 2005; and WHEREAS, The post office has served as a vital link of communication between the city's residents and friends, businesses, relatives, and governmental bodies around the world; and WHEREAS, William R. McMillan, one of the founders of Winnsboro, was appointed the first postmaster on March 6, 1855; today, postmaster Ronny Shirley, the 22nd individual to hold the position, oversees 5,500 delivery addresses and more than 10 million pieces of mail annually; and WHEREAS, Many generations of Winnsboro residents have enjoyed the dependable and friendly service of the employees of the Winnsboro Post Office, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity to recognize them on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the Winnsboro Post Office on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and extend to all past and present employees sincere best wishes for a memorable observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Winnsboro Post Office as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
