R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes pride in
paying tribute to the memory of Staff Sergeant Jimmie Doyle of the
U.S. Army Air Corps, who gave his life in service to this nation
during World War II; and
WHEREAS, A loving husband to his wife, Myrle, and father to
his son, Tommy, Sergeant Doyle left his home in Lamesa to join the
armed forces, answering his country's call to arms as a member of
the 307th bomber group of the U.S. Army's 13th Air Corps; and
WHEREAS, Tragically, while serving as a tail gunner aboard a
B-24 Liberator, this courageous Texan was shot down over the
Pacific on September 1, 1944, adding to the heavy toll of
heartbreaking loss endured by so many American families during the
course of the war; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Doyle's status remained classified as
missing in action, as his family struggled to carry on without the
beloved husband and father; six decades had passed when, in 2004,
the wreckage of his plane was discovered off the coast of Palau,
thanks to the diligent efforts of volunteers from the Bent Prop
Project; and
WHEREAS, The generation of Americans that fought during World
War II preserved their nation's freedom for decades to come, and
Sergeant Doyle is an inspirational example of the bravery and
dedication to duty that were required to assure victory in that
conflict; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant Jimmie
Doyle and honor his valiant military service during World War II;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Staff
Sergeant Jimmie Doyle.
