R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wesley L. and Betty-Erle Rhodes will celebrate their
50th wedding anniversary on August 27, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Joined in marriage on August 27, 1955, at Calvary
Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee, Mr. Rhodes and the former
Betty-Earle Pouncey first met in October 1954 in a crowded student
library while attending the Memphis College, currently named
University of Memphis; and
WHEREAS, This loving couple lived throughout the South and
briefly retired to New Mexico before moving to Abilene, Texas, in
2004 to be closer to family; currently Wes is an employee of Maxwell
Golf Course and Betty-Erle volunteers as a docent at the National
Center for Children's Illustrated Literature and works
professionally with local arts programs; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Rhodes have watched with pride
and delight as their daughter, Denise, has grown and succeeded with
their son-in-law, Bryan Gentsch; and
WHEREAS, For half a century, Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes have found
strength, love, and companionship in their union, and their
steadfast commitment to each other is a source of tremendous joy and
inspiration to all who are privileged to know them; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Betty-Erle and Wesley Lee on the
momentous occasion of their 50th anniversary and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of the resolution be prepared
for Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
