H.R. No. 1838



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Abby Robinson Kratz received her doctorate in 
education leadership from Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi on 
May 14, 2005, and this significant achievement indeed merits 
special recognition; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Kratz holds a bachelor's degree from Wellesley 
College, a master's degree in education from Harvard University, 
and a master's in library science from Simmons College; and
	WHEREAS, The first women's studies librarian, she worked at 
the Ohio State University library before arriving in Texas to serve 
as the head of reference services at The University of Texas at 
Dallas library; promoted to assistant director and then associate 
director of the UTD library's public services department, she was 
appointed assistant provost of the university in 1993; six years 
later, she accepted the position of director of libraries at Texas 
A&M--Corpus Christi, where she served until 2002, when she returned 
to UTD to become assistant provost and director of educational 
innovation; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Kratz is the author of numerous articles that 
have appeared in professional journals, and she co-authored the 
book Effective Listening Skills and co-edited Staff Development: A 
Practical Guidefor the American Library Association; her 
dissertation examined issues related to post-tenure review at Texas 
universities; and
	WHEREAS, An esteemed professional and scholar, Abby Kratz has 
demonstrated an unwavering dedication to excellence throughout her 
career, and it is a pleasure to join in celebrating this most recent 
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Abby Robinson Kratz on earning her 
doctorate in education leadership from Texas A&M 
University--Corpus Christi and extend to her sincere best wishes 
for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Dr. Kratz as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
