R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Siria G. Sierra of Los Fresnos is retiring from her position with Palmer-Laakso Elementary School on May 26, 2005, and the occasion provides a most fitting opportunity to honor her; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Sierra was born on August 8, 1940, in Cerritos San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and moved with her family to Texas, where they settled in "El Quarenta," a rural area of Los Fresnos; a truly selfless individual, she left school early and went to work to help support her brothers and sisters; and WHEREAS, Later, Mrs. Sierra moved to Brownsville and went to work at Barkers, a local department store; it was there that she met the love of her life, Juan Sierra Salazar; the pair married on November 9, 1968, and a year later, they were blessed with a son, Juan Carlos Sierra; today, she takes special pride in her grandchildren, Juan Carlos "Johnny" Sierra, Jr., George Anthony Sanchez, Venessa Yvette Sanchez, and Amanda Nicole "Mandy" Sanchez; and WHEREAS, An integral part of her community, Mrs. Sierra has been a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church for many years and gives readily of her time and talents to the Catholic Daughters of America District No. 31; and WHEREAS, Siria Sierra is a truly exceptional woman who has earned the lasting respect and affection of all who are privileged to know her, and it is indeed a pleasure to wish her well as she begins a new chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Siria G. Sierra on her retirement from Palmer-Laakso Elementary School and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Sierra as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
