R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 40th anniversary of the Muy Grande Day contest
provides an ideal opportunity to recognize the event's founder,
Leonel "Muy" Garza of Freer and his significant contributions to
the community; and
WHEREAS, Four decades after Mr. Garza founded it as a
promotion for the gas station where he worked, the Muy Grande Day
contest is the oldest big buck contest in Texas and a premier
hunting event for outdoorsmen across the nation; as a result, Freer
annually plays host to crowds that easily multiply the town's
normal population, providing a major economic boost to the region;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garza, who is an excellent judge of hunting
potential, may take great pride in knowing that his decades of hard
work and dedication have helped to define the concept of trophy
hunting in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Leonel "Muy" Garza as the founder of the
Muy Grande Day contest on its 40th anniversary and extend to him
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
