R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 40th anniversary of the Muy Grande Day contest provides an ideal opportunity to recognize the event's founder, Leonel "Muy" Garza of Freer and his significant contributions to the community; and WHEREAS, Four decades after Mr. Garza founded it as a promotion for the gas station where he worked, the Muy Grande Day contest is the oldest big buck contest in Texas and a premier hunting event for outdoorsmen across the nation; as a result, Freer annually plays host to crowds that easily multiply the town's normal population, providing a major economic boost to the region; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garza, who is an excellent judge of hunting potential, may take great pride in knowing that his decades of hard work and dedication have helped to define the concept of trophy hunting in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Leonel "Muy" Garza as the founder of the Muy Grande Day contest on its 40th anniversary and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
