R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The well-being of our state's senior citizens
depends in part on organizations that provide information and
resources vital to enhancing their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, With more than 35 million members, the AARP
addresses the needs and interests of persons age 50 and older by
providing information on issues important to this growing
demographic group, advocating on consumer and legal issues, and
promoting community service; and
WHEREAS, On May 21, 2005, residents of El Paso are welcoming
the grand opening of an AARP Information Center, a "one-stop shop"
for older Texans and their families to learn about local, state, and
national issues that affect seniors; with an estimated 37,000 AARP
members, El Paso is the second city in Texas, after Houston, to host
such a center; and
WHEREAS, Bringing invaluable resources to the area, the AARP
Information Center will undoubtedly enrich the lives of local
residents, and all those associated with the organization merit
special recognition for bringing this important project to
fruition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the AARP
Information Center in El Paso and extend to AARP-Texas sincere best
wishes for success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
