R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jean Dale Manes of San Antonio is celebrating a special event in her life, her 85th birthday, on June 12, 2005; and WHEREAS, Born in 1920 in the town of Blanco, Mrs. Manes graduated from Blanco High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in music; her talent extended to various instruments, including piano, violin, and saxophone, and she was a regular member of the university orchestra; and WHEREAS, While attending school, this "Blue Bonnet Belle" met her future husband, Charles V. Manes, whom she married in 1940 at her family's home in Blanco; while her husband served overseas during World War II and the Korean War, Mrs. Manes assisted her parents in the production of the Blanco County News; she later moved to Madrid, where Mr. Manes was on military assignment, and she was elected head of the Protestant Women of the Chapel for Spain and Morocco; in 1967, she moved with her husband to Dallas and worked as a tour director for student trips to Europe and the Middle East; and WHEREAS, Today, the devoted couple live in San Antonio and enjoy a close relationship with their three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, From riding her favorite stallion, Diamond, into Blanco as a girl to directing tours to exotic locales as an adult, Jean Dale Manes has more than eight decades of wonderful memories to cherish, and she continues to brighten the lives of all who know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jean Dale Manes on the memorable occasion of her 85th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Manes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
