R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Highland Park High School in Dallas has been recognized by two major publications for demonstrating excellence in academics and athletics, and this feat represents yet another significant achievement for this outstanding school; and WHEREAS, Highland Park was ranked 12th on Newsweek's list of the best high schools in America, the second time the school has earned selection to the magazine's "Top 100" listing; this rating is based on participation rates in advanced placement and international baccalaureate programs; and WHEREAS, The school also received well-deserved recognition from Sports Illustrated, which ranked Highland Park 16th on its list of the country's top 25 high school athletic programs; the Highland Park Scots can boast of an impressive 33 state championships in nine sports over the past 10 years; and WHEREAS, These impressive academic and athletic accomplishments are a credit to the dedication of the school's students, teachers, administrators, coaches, and parents, who truly merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Superintendent Dr. Cathy Bryce and the students, faculty, and staff of Highland Park High School on its listing by Newsweek and Sports Illustrated magazines as a top high school in the nation; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Highland Park High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
