R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Daryl Jerome Burton II of Grand Prairie has been selected to receive a Future African American Leadership Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and WHEREAS, A 2004 graduate of South Grand Prairie High School, Mr. Burton attends Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, where he is majoring in business management; in high school, he was a member of the student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Black Student Organization, and Student Empower Team; he was named a Great Texas Scholar and listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students; and WHEREAS, Mr. Burton is also a talented athlete who led the South Grand Prairie High School football team as quarterback in his senior year to a 9-2 season, earning the team's first playoff appearance since 1999; his athletic honors include the 2003 District 8-5A Offensive Player of the Year, four-time Grand Prairie Morning News "Male Athlete of the Week," and Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Scholar Athlete Award; and WHEREAS, Maintaining an active extracurricular schedule did not prevent Mr. Burton from helping in the community; he volunteered extensively with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, Grand Prairie Branch, and the Right Way Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Being presented with a Future African American Leadership Award is truly a prestigious honor, and as Mr. Burton embraces a future bright with promise, it is indeed appropriate to commend him for his achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Daryl Jerome Burton II on his receipt of a Future African American Leadership Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Burton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
