R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Clayton Cotton and Travis Stegner of Wichita Falls
High School are the winners of the UIL 2005 Class 4A boys' doubles
tennis championship; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cotton and Mr. Stegner overcame an early deficit
in the first set before capturing the state title with an impressive
6-3, 6-1 victory over a talented Highland Park High School team; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the championship match, this dynamic duo
demonstrated tremendous poise and consistency, remaining focused
on their ultimate goal of bringing home the championship crown;
their effort was lauded by Coach John Stafford, who provided
guidance and encouragement for the twosome throughout the season;
and
WHEREAS, A senior, Mr. Cotton plans to attend Oklahoma State
University, while Mr. Stegner will return to Wichita Falls High
School next season for his senior year and a chance to defend his
state title; and
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the goal of any
student-athlete, and the memory of this impressive triumph will
remain with these young men for many years to come, inspiring them
to even greater achievements in the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Clayton Cotton and Travis Stegner
for winning the UIL Class 4A boys' doubles tennis championship and
extend best wishes to them for continued success and happiness in
all their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Cotton and Mr. Stegner as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
