R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and a host of dear friends cherish the memory of Carol Dacus of Brewster County, who passed away at the age of 48; and WHEREAS, Born on May 16, 1956, in Alpine, Mrs. Dacus attended Texas Tech University before returning home to earn a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Sul Ross State University; she continued to pursue her artistic calling after leaving school and worked in many media--painting, sculpting, weaving, pottery- and jewelry-making, and wood burning; and WHEREAS, A certified horse trainer, Mrs. Dacus trained horses at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico and worked for Newell Oil Company in Alpine before joining the staff at Sul Ross in 1981; she retired from her position as senior buyer for Purchasing at the university in 2003; and WHEREAS, This true daughter of West Texas took profound joy in working the family ranch in the Glass Mountains and delighted in the land and all its creatures; she was also sustained by her deep, unwavering faith, and she was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Alpine; and WHEREAS, Married for 12 years to Jim Dacus, with whom she shared an especially happy and rewarding union, she was also deeply devoted to her daughter, Amber, and grandson, Brandon; and WHEREAS, Although Carol Dacus completed her journey on this earth far too soon, her life was rich in family, friends, and accomplishments, and her memory will forever light the hearts of those who were privileged to share in her love and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Carol Dacus and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Jim Dacus; to her daughter, Amber Dawn Parr; to her grandson, Brandon Mills Parr; to her parents, Eva Jeanne and George Mills; to her sister, Marsha Stabel, and her husband, Max; to her brother, Homer Mills, and his wife, Druann; and to all the other relatives and friends of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carol Dacus.
