H.R. No. 1944


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sergeant Rosalind Perry of the Dallas Police Department has been selected as a recipient of the Outstanding Texan Award in the area of public safety/law enforcement by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive impact they make in their communities, and Sergeant Perry's skills and professionalism have benefited both her fellow citizens and the department in which she serves; and WHEREAS, A 16-year veteran of the Dallas police force, Sergeant Perry brought to the department extensive experience as a manager in the private sector; presently a member of the communication division and assigned to the Patrol Bureau East Division, she previously worked in the narcotics division, abatement unit, and youth and family crimes division; and WHEREAS, Before assuming her present duties in January 2005, Sergeant Perry most recently served as legislative coordinator for the department; her responsibilities in that post included establishing communication links with the community and meeting with area groups to discuss police services and sensitive issues involving the community and the DPD; and WHEREAS, Drawing on her professional experience and academic training, Sergeant Perry has developed a highly acclaimed series of workshops on police domestic violence, as well as an interactive course on the causes of that violence; and WHEREAS, This esteemed officer is licensed as a police instructor by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education; she holds a bachelor's degree from Rollins College and currently attends Amberton University, where she is pursuing a master's degree in counseling and professional development; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Rosalind Perry has had a profound effect on the lives of countless residents of the Lone Star State, and it is a great pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Rosalind Perry on being named a recipient of the Outstanding Texan Award in the area of public safety/law enforcement by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Perry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
