R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Robert Medlock of Dallas has been selected as a recipient of an Outstanding Texan Award in the area of professional service by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive impact they make in their communities, and Mr. Medlock's remarkable service as a substitute teacher with the Dallas Independent School District has truly enhanced the lives of many individuals in the Dallas area; and WHEREAS, Retired from Ultra Instruments, this active 80-year-old is a graduate of Woodland High School and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force; he earned an AB degree from Samuel Huston College in Austin in 1950 before beginning a 10-year career at the Lone Star School Book Depository; and WHEREAS, Already in his 60s when he began working as a substitute teacher, Mr. Medlock has demonstrated a commendable desire to work with young people; in addition to performing his regular teaching duties, Mr. Medlock devotes time to mentoring at-risk students, many of whom have come to regard him as a surrogate father; and WHEREAS, Mr. Medlock is dedicated to improving his already impressive pedagogical skills, whether studying on his own or working with colleagues to advance his teaching technique; his commitment to his students extends further through his perfect attendance record; in fact, he has not missed a day of work during his entire career; and WHEREAS, A man of great faith, Mr. Medlock is a longtime member of Allen Chapel Baptist Church; he is a devoted father and grandfather, who has earned the respect and admiration of family, friends, and colleagues through his exceptional and inspirational service to his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Robert Medlock on being named the recipient of an Outstanding Texan Award by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus in the area of professional service and extend best wishes to him for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Medlock as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
