R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of the Miller-King Sunday School Class of the Good Street Baptist Church in Dallas have contributed greatly to the vitality of their congregation and community; and WHEREAS, Organized by Lydia Saunders, the group was originally known as the Young Married Couples Class and was renamed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Jessie B. Miller, a devoted and active congregant and Sunday school teacher; and WHEREAS, Through the years, class members have enjoyed the inspired lessons of many gifted teachers and have benefited from the leadership of the Reverend Caesar A. W. Clark, Sunday school superintendent Verlether Grant, president Estelle Adams, and president emeritus Whitman Gardner; and WHEREAS, In addition to strengthening their understanding of the Bible, the men and women of the Miller-King class have been active in numerous civic activities, including supporting an annual scholarship fund and organizing a child protection committee; moreover, they have played a vital role in the young people's Sunday school teaching forum, given of their time and talents to the Good Street Social Services Center, volunteered to feed the homeless, and uplifted the spirits of ill and homebound church members with regular visits; and WHEREAS, The members of the Miller-King Sunday School Class have striven to meet the needs of their congregation and community, and it is indeed fitting at this time that these dedicated individuals be acknowledged for their ongoing efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the members of the Miller-King Sunday School Class for their many good works and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
