R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Each year the incidence of miscarriage, stillborn
birth, or sudden death of an infant turns a time of great joy into a
period of immeasurable sadness for thousands of Texas families; and
WHEREAS, The observance of a special day to honor those loved
ones and their families is a way to express support for those who
have been dealt such an overwhelming loss and must find the strength
to survive this terrible tragedy and the courage to move forward
again in their lives; and
WHEREAS, A day of remembrance may also serve to enlighten the
public about how to respond with compassion to affected families as
well as to educate and inform physicians, nurses, clergy, and other
professionals on how to better serve families who have experienced
perinatal deaths; and
WHEREAS, Remembering pregnancies and infants lost will
heighten awareness and sensitivity to these devastating
occurrences, offer support and education to those who may be
suffering in silence, and provide new insight to those who want to
help their loved ones in their time of need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize October 15, 2005, as Pregnancy and
Infant Loss Remembrance Day and encourage all Texans to consider
how we can better meet the needs of grieving mothers, fathers, and
family members and help to comfort families in a time of pain and
heartache.
