H.R. No. 1960
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Eastwood High School boys' track and field team
achieved great success at the Region 1-5A track meet in Lubbock with
second-place finishes in the 400-meter relay and the 1,600-meter
relay; and
WHEREAS, By qualifying two relay teams for state competition,
the Troopers became El Paso's first boys' team in 30 years to
achieve such a feat; in addition, the Eastwood 400-meter relay team
set a school record time of 41.89 seconds at the regional meet; and
WHEREAS, The 400-meter relay team consists of seniors Matt
Hughes, Joseph Ortiz, Alvin Yates, and Gabe Vargas; the 1,600-meter
relay team includes Mr. Vargas and Mr. Ortiz, senior Marco Herrera,
and juniors Mike Pivarnick and Eric Sigala; and
WHEREAS, Coach Mike McClain ably schooled these superb
athletes in the finer points of the sport, while instilling in them
the values of hard work, dedication, and good sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, Their commitment to excellence has earned the
Troopers great respect within the El Paso community, and the memory
of this achievement will undoubtedly remain with them for years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Eastwood High School boys'
track and field team for earning second place in the 400-meter relay
and 1,600-meter relay in regional competition and commend its
members for their hard work and dedication in securing their
achievements; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
