R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America Troop 806 of Houston, chartered to the Brotherhood of Temple Beth Israel, is celebrating its 25th year of service to the young men of Southwest Houston, and throughout its entire existence, this notable troop has known only one scoutmaster, Steven Marc Shapiro; and WHEREAS, During his 25 years of service in this role, Mr. Shapiro--always known simply as "Steve"--has been the scoutmaster for nearly 400 young men who have enjoyed membership in Troop 806; and WHEREAS, Of that group of dedicated scouts, 94 have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, a tribute to Mr. Shapiro's remarkable leadership skills and his commitment to shepherding his charges through the rigorous demands necessary to earn that coveted rank; and WHEREAS, By serving as the volunteer camp director of the Sam Houston Area Council's Winter Camp for 10 years, he has remained in close contact with many scouts in the 16-county area of the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, Mr. Shapiro has been recognized for the outstanding qualities of his leadership in service to scouting with the Silver Beaver Award from the Sam Houston Area Council and the Shofar Award from the National Jewish Committee on Scouting; and WHEREAS, A role model for young and old alike, Steve Shapiro has demonstrated a noble commitment to the young people of Troop 806, and his exemplary service has earned him the respect and admiration of countless scouts, parents, and fellow scoutmasters; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Steven Marc Shapiro for his service as scoutmaster of Troop 806 and commend him for his attempts to boldly go where no scoutmaster has gone before; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Shapiro as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
