H.R. No. 2021
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Hannah Maenius, a senior at Fredericksburg High
School, captured gold in the Class 4A 800-meter run at the 2005 UIL
state high school track and field meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in
Austin, and this significant accomplishment is most worthy of
special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Maenius won the competition with an impressive
time of 2 minutes, 16.21 seconds, just over a second off her
personal best; during the regular season, she won a total of 25
gold, silver, and bronze medals and delivered the best time in the
800-meter run among Class 4A runners; and
WHEREAS, This talented teen trained hard in her pursuit of
the gold medal, running 30 miles a week during the summer to prepare
for her final season of high school track; in addition to her strict
running regimen, she also lifted weights, swam, and used a
treadmill in an effort to increase her speed and build up her
endurance; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Maenius was born with a hearing impairment and
relies on a cochlear implant to hear, but she has not let that
circumstance slow her down; she has earned a scholarship to run
cross country and track at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, where she will
undoubtedly continue to excel in both athletics and academics; and
WHEREAS, Hannah Maenius has demonstrated courage and
dedication in her determination to become a champion, and her
gold-medal-winning performance provides a joyful memory that she
will carry with her throughout the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Hannah Maenius for winning gold in
the 800-meter run and extend to her best wishes for good fortune and
happiness in the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Maenius as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
